As a follow-up to the Gerdec fundraising effort this past spring, MAAS/BESA has agreed to donate $3,000 for a Computer Lab in Gerdec. The Albanian Civil Society Foundation (ACSF) will implement the project and purchase 5 computers and other materials required for the Computer Lab. The mathematics teachers at the school will be responsible for the training which will be built into the school's curriculum over the next year.
Meetings were held by the ACSF with the Deputy Mayor of Vora (Gerdec is under Vora jurisdiction) and with the School Principal who have both agreed to support the project. The Computer Lab will be set up in the current school after some renovations and painting to the room, and will then be transferred to the new school which is being built in Gerdec. The school has 74 students.
Thank you to everyone who donated to and supported this effort. Special thanks to Leonard Keka of Alba Restaurant in Quincy, without whose support and assistance this effort would not have been possible. If you would like more information on the project, please let us know.
Finally, we look forward to working with many of you on this and similar activities in the future (both in the Balkans and here in Massachusetts), and to seeing all of you at the Flag Day dinner on November 29th, which will raise funds for the Albanian Language and Heritage School in Boston.
